Team History: Sometime around 2001, Hahn Rossman of Alki-Foundry LLC, Gabe Hajiani of Rubicon LLC, and a few friends who all owned their businesses, and all spent a lot of time out riding, decided that they might as well put their logos on one jersey and give racing a try. Six years later, some have moved on, but the core is still there and the team has grown to over 20 riders.
Our Mission: To create a tightly knit team of racers with a love for the challenges and opportunities that bike racing presents, be it the mental battle of climbing Malaga, setting up the team lead out at Seward, or the perfect technical race at Steilacoom. Most of all, it is being a part of a team that supports each other in maintaining a balanced lifestyle and a love of cycling...we hope it will rub off!
Joining Alki|Rubicon: Due to the current size of our team, our goal of maintaining a tightly knit group, and the levels of sponsorhip we hold, we do not have open enrollment or "meet the team rides." But we do race and train year round, so if you are interested in joining us on a ride please send us an email and we can talk.

Aaron Erbeck

Born In Green Bay, WI, Aaron is a flatlander who excels in the muck and hills of cyclocross. After stints in the mountains of Colorado and Jackson Hole, WY, Aaron began honing his racing skills in Portland, OR. Wooed by the temptress, Tracy, Aaron put a ring on her finger and quick as cross race created the next Erbeck legend, True McCaig.  Aaron is well known for his infectious laugh and million dollar smile.

Anne Marie Kessler
One of the top off season acquisitions of 2005, Anne Marie was brought on in hopes that some of her motherly sanity would rub off on the team.  She applies her racing talents to triathlons, road racing and the mud and grit of cyclocross. She prefers working hard, leading out teammates, Stealing primes, & suffering up long climbs, to life in the spotlight.  She races to help balance an overwhelming desire to sip Black Butte Porters & skiing long into the spring.  Anne Marie and Dave Stonich’s newest addition, David Jr, joins older sister Betsy in a hotly contested battle for cutest Alki/Rubicon kid.
Clark Rider
AKA Puppy Chow, DOKE, and Low Rider, Clark grew up in Boulder, CO on Wheat Chex and PB & Honey while listening to butt rock and the Beastie Boys.  Little did Clark know that a fiery hottie, Vanessa, would end up in Seattle too, forgive him  for Sammy Hagar and say "I do". Although Clark played Baseball throughout college at Whitworth College in Spokane, his love of the road and speed keeps him on the bike.   Clark's talents extend beyond the bike, as displayed in this very website, created by him.  Doke is unquestionably the glue of the chartreuse squad.
Dave Rider
2004 Cat 3 Washington state crit champion. Colorado born but forged into his current invincible form in the rain of the Pacific Northwest.  Dave manages to deflect attention from his dominating style of racing with ample doses of wit and charm...barely.  Despite a shocking lack of training and a complete disregard for so-called 'nutrition' he remains Alki|Rubicon's most successful racer. Whether we regard him as an example to be followed or simply a force of nature is hotly contested in the all important post-race analysis.  Perhaps more proof of Dave's powerful manliness lies with the creation of two perfect  mini-me's, bravely incubated and delivered by his petite, bad-ass mountain biking wife, Lisa.
Dave Stonich
Place of Birth: Laguna Beach, CA. Raised on Philly Cheese Steaks ever since.  Years Racing: 1997-, he took 8th place (beginner class) in his 1st mtn bike race in Bend, OR. Stats: Expert Mtn Bike Racer, Master A in Cyclocross, Cat 2/Master Road Racer Career Highlights: Shaved legs in 2000; Swapped Speedos for spandex in 2001; Developed permanent back-side calluses in 2003 Weaknesses: Michael Jackson’s Thriller album, which he often replays on long, solo rides Other Noteworthy Points: Currently under a strict training program with baby number two (sharing the same moniker as papa) for diaper changing and bottle warming.  Not a shy man, Stoney can be seen lounging around the fire station during his shifts wearing nothing but chartreuse bibs (rumor has it, for his safety, he stopped shaving his legs).
Gabe Hajiani
Previously in architectural metal design by trade, now putting his talent to work in creative design, Gabe (Haji) is the architect of Alki-Rubicon’s movement to foster comraderie between all racers while maintaining the competitve nature of racing. Along with Hahn, Gabe is a Co-founder of Alki-Rubicon. On a pace with the growth of the team, Gabe’s skills have continued to be sharpened with each passing season.  Keep an eye out for Haji’s yellow glasses at the front of the pack, and say hello if you get the chance.

Hahn Rossman
Rossman (aka, Hahnsome or Dreamy Eyes) Which is better, East Coast or West Coast Rap?  Hahn’s reply, “Thats like choosing to give up beer over coffee, or coffee over beer.  Both are great but you can’t choose one over the other.”  Hahn’s accepting attitude is due to his upbringing.  Born in Philly, he has since lived in Vermont, Detroit, L.A., New Mexico, and Seattle.  One of the Alki|Rubicon co-founders, Hahn is a metal design expert with a background in fine art/metal-sculpting, a former restaurant owner, avid reader, avid talker, a modern day renaissance man, some even call him a super hero.  Not many grown men who work in a foundry can get away with wearing bright blue and chartreuse skin tight spandex on the weekend!  The yin to Hahn's yang is his talented and beautiful wife, Jana.  Together, they are raising four legged kids, Helmet and Cosmo.
Holly Davis
Born:  A rare Northwest Native from Issaquah, WA, Holly now makes her home in the comfort of the Ravenna district, also known as Alki/Rubicon triangle.  Holly's strengths-  climbing mountains on the bike or skis, artisan bread (skill perfected in France no less) Weaknesses- crits/sprints, mint  chip ice cream, and babies Some peculiar and little known Holly facts- 1. Holly loves going deep into the pain cave by riding her bike up long mountain passes, specifically in France with the added pleasure of 20 lbs in her panniers. 3. Holly sports an incredible titanium wedding ring, marking the nuptials to soul-mate and fellow pain cave dweller, Seth Davis.  Together they are affectionately known to Seattle bike and ski racers as "The Gazelles". 4. Holly actually likes Tuna Mac. 5.  No human being alive has ever seen this Lady Rubi frown
James Birkenbuel
James Birkenbuel- aka Uncle Jamie, or James "The Body" Birkenbuel. Born in '74, James is hard as mails but soft as a kitten.  He will hold your baby in one hand and sling a hammer in the other.  He sports more cool wool sweaters than Beck and had better hair while using less product.  James is a part time speedo model-  only scheduling photo shoots to pay for his bike habit.  He is one of the Northwest's smoothest riders and is a dedicated Group Health Groupie.  He is an absolute gentleman, the kind of boy a girl brings home to her mother.
Jane Matera

Born: Midland, MI. Years racing: Cycling 5, Triathlon 7 Stats: Cat 3 road racer & Triathlete. Strengths: An unmatched love for ice cream and long road races with arduous climbs.  Weaknesses (in the knees) Steve Matera, whom she wed in Mazama, Wa. in June, 05 and Baby Jackson, born 6/19/07. Other noteworthy points: Competes in Ironman triathlons in her spare time and engineers for Boeing just to keep it interesting!

Jim Wood
Under Construction...coming soon
Joan Studley

A Native of the Northwest, Joan was born and bred on the tough streets of Tacoma.  Joan is the “silent assassin” of team Alki-Rubicon’s cylcocross ladies.  Before her top competitors even realize that she is there, she has picked them off one by one.

Don’t underestimate the slight build of this Rubi-lady.  Week in and week out, she will be there to contend.
John Duquette

Born in Hinsdale Il, John moved to Sequim when he was 8 months old, where he spent the rest of his budding years. Then it was on to the Great Paloose, where John attended WSU.  Pullman was where John started his rugby career, which turned to running, and then to triathlons (a natural progression...) Upon graduating, John moved to Seattle to enjoy the culture (politics and Black Butte Porter), pursue life near the water, and get as far away as he could from Wazzu.  John recently married fellow racer Jodi Hess.

John Herzog

Unlike nearly everyone else on the team...or everyone in the city for that matter, John hails from Seattle-proper.  John was a slow convert to the masochistic world of bike racing, despite always having enjoyed bike riding, and claiming to have been born on a bike...seriously, how would that even work?  Quote: "It's just easier to start racing after your peak years because you already know that you will never be that great."...somebody tell that to the master's A field. An avid trash-talker and heckler, John is known for his big elbows jamming everyone else up in cross races and mountain bike races throughout the area.

John Stambaugh

Born in DC in the heat of Watergate, 1974, John started racing shortly thereafter.  He began the leg-shavin' cyclin' routine before his voice had fallen.  Years later, during his first winter off, he was startled to see hints of man-growth emerge on his legs. New to the team, he hopes to keep the tradition of shock and awe alive with his clumsy, but effective, cross technique and penchant for livin'-on-a-prayer-blurry-eyed--penultimate-lap throw-down in the various urban twilight crits scattered about the NW.  His best road racing days behind him, he might toss in some track racing for zen-master balance, if time away from wife and baby allow it.

Josh Platis

Having grown up in the landlocked beauty of Utah, Josh’s Greek Isle roots are not immediately apparent.  His name, Platis, is rumored to mean “looks good with a mustache,” but may as well mean, “Fiery andSpirited!”  Josh is one of those racers that all good teams are looking for, he keeps things loose and is never at a loss for a great story. (Unofficially) Josh has been sighted showing off his wares in the Fremont solstice parade, and  as was one of the “Dirty Sanchez” team that took first place in the cat 4s at the 2005 Little 100.  Keep an eye out for flashes of brilliance from Josh this upcoming year.

Kevin Black
No one can see it coming.  Behind his laid-back & easy smile, Kevin hides a heart of steel.  A proud dad of two future racers, Megan (12) and Emily (9), he cranks out 150 mile weeks commuting with his girls to school, then to work, training during lunch, plus racing on weekends. No wonder it wasn’t a big deal to ride all the way to California just to attend his 20th high school reunion. He just jumped on his bike and headed down Hwy 101…7 days and 1000 miles later he was ready to party. With his bike handling skills, communication ability and great endurance, Kevin is your “must have” teammate on the road. While his favorite race is the criterium, Kevin loves riding fat tires too. Yes, suspension or no, he’s ready to go. When not riding, he is a biochemistry researcher at UW. Who can imagine Kevin wearing a white coat?
Mo Moffett

How do you say “I race cyclocross” in Nepal?  I have no idea, but I am sure Mo might be able to tell ya.  Mo Taught English as a second language and spent three and a half years in the Peace Corps in Nepal (she's a fluent Nepali speaker) before she began teaching in the Tacoma Public School District in 1999.  Formerly an English/Humanities teacher.  Melissa now works as Community Developer, handling everything from community partnerships to grant writing and overseeing the adjunct artist program.  In addition to her already demanding job, Melissa is enrolled in the University of Washington-Tacoma's Professional Certification and Principal Certification Programs.

Naoko Forderer
Born and raised across the Pacific, Naoko terrorized the locals by zipping through traffic on her middle/high school and college commutes riding a hard tail. Living under the stars and stripes for 8 years now, Alki|Rubicon’s jewel by way of Japan, Nao is a pleasure to witness in all forms of racing off road. Be it mountain or cross, this rubi gal puts the ham in hammer. Watch as she brings glory to the storied ladies team and boys, remember to say hello as she implores you to turn those cranks a little faster during your race. As far as Naoko flying the Alki|Rubicon colors in a road race... it’s not if, but when! Or more likely, win!  A quote straight form the source... “Every Sunday morning heading to the race, I ask myself “why am I doing this?” Cross racing hurts! But the best part comes after my race. I get to yell at my teammates who are suffering in their race.” You get the picture.
Nicola McGloughlin

Born in a teepee in Lost Nation, Iowa on Sept 2,1975.  Raised in Dallas, PA 1977-1994. Favorite album as a teenager, TheSmiths, RANK 1988.  Most proud of? “18 hours of natural labor that brought my little sweet child, Skylar.”  Favorite bike of all time? “The Kona HEY HEY, titanium, my favorite dance partner on single track.  ONE of the greatest rides of all time for me, was a 20mile climb out of Santa Fe, NM 7,500ft to 11,500, reach the top, have two PB&J's and then turn around and descend 20miles of single track YEE HAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!”

Rob Lehtinen
Here is the real profile on Rob as inspired by the Entertainment Tonight: Booze and broads have shaped this cyclists career.  Engineer by day, this MA native took up Fat tire racing at 13 but as you could expect, moved on to the harder stuff in no time, racing road bikes through high school and into college.  Cocktails quashed his pro racing ambitions but love lead him west, and when love was lost, cycling provided inspiration - just a different type of punishment.  After a short stop in Portland, Seattle became home and a place to ride in the pack and race for fun.
Rodney Trepass
Tracy Erbeck

Raised: in S. Lake Tahoe, College in San Diego. Traded sun and surfers for pasty, northwest men in 1992. Riding experience: Over 10 years (bikes, horses, trains, etc).  Expert mtn biker, Master in Cross, and a PhD in “Beer Hydration.” Favorite rides:  Any ride with teammate and husband Aaron, Reach the Beach, Chikiminn Ridge. Qualities: punk rocker for life, tons of determination, and race heckling genius.  Prefers big grizzly dogs over cuddly kittens, shaven legs over furry trunks, red wine, fast bikes, fast Men & New Wave.  Paula Abdul Roadie 1984 – 1987.

Victoria Carter

Growing up breathing the crisp mountain air of  Mt. Shasta, followed by a stretch in architecture school in Eugene, Victoria arrived in Seattle with an air of calm that belies her tenacity.  Her love of movement (not to mention challenge & pain??) keeps her on the bike, on the run, triathloning, and telemark skiing. She embodies the spirit of Alki-Rubicon, which entails a love for riding and comraderie.
